Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy can be a helpful adjunct to traditional psychotherapy for individuals who are feeling “stuck” in their mental health progress. Ketamine can be especially helpful for individuals who are battling treatment-resistant depression and anxiety. The Default Mode Network (DMN) is a far-reaching brain system partly responsible for thinking about the past or future. In depressed and anxious individuals the DMN is often dysregulated leading to rumination and/or anxiety. Under the influence of ketamine this system “goes quiet” allowing for alternative perspectives to occupy space and gain traction. Ryan obtained an advanced certificate in psychedelic studies through Naropa University with an eye towards helping clients make sense of how a dysregulated DMN is impairing functioning and integrating new ways of thinking, feeling, behaving and being.
